Looking Back On My Second Year

Sunday, July 16, 2017

Good Morning!
I hope you're having a great week.

Now that I'm back to the Student Saturday posts, although it's Sunday, I thought it was time to share my experience of my second year and thoughts on looking back at how the year went. I asked you guys over on Twitter what post you would like to see today, and of course you wanted two; so don't forget to come back later for the weekly round up.

Second year was a rocky on, however I also wouldn't say it was difficult; because it wasn't. Friendships were so much easier in my second year and a lot of the time I was going in and going home within a couple of hours; it was great. I cannot study at University so going in and getting out as soon as possible is perfect for me so I can crack on with my work in my little comfort zone (tucked up in bed).

As usual my modules consisted of a 3000 word essay and roughly a 2000 word presentation and there were two modules per semester; easy peasy. However, I found this year's modules so boring; I wanted to get them over and done with as quickly as possible because I weren't interested in them and what I had to write about. This is where organisation is key. If you want to get something out of the way and submitted before the deadline then you need to plan, you need to be organised and you need to prioritise your time. It's really as simple as that.

I'm pleased to say this year's marks were higher than my first year, of course they were; our results are all fixed anyway and everyone comes out with a 1:1 or a 2:1; we all know that! Gaining a 2:1 overall, I couldn't be happier but sadly I had to deal with shit tutors along the way. How would you feel if your tutor showed your work to all of your class, telling them that you'd get a 1:1 for it and you end up getting a 2:1. It's crap! But the worst part is when my personal tutor doesn't believe anyone when they tell her our tutor did this. She claimed that she wouldn't have done this, but sadly she did. There's not much I can do about this though as the tutor who did this, no longer works in the department which I study in; absolutely perfect. But oh well, it's just the perks of paying a lot of money out each year to have rubbish teaching and crap standards from my tutors. I'm sure it won't change in my third year.

Something I realised during my second year is to only care about what I'm doing and what I want to do for my presentations and essays, not what other people want to do. I went through the first two years of my degree, agreeing with everyone else with topics just to make them happy; but feeling absolutely crap about it because I hated studying it. It will be my final year and I'm paying for this education so I need to make the most of it, right?

So something to remember is; do this for yourself, whatever it may be. If you don't agree with a topic to do a presentation on, then share your thoughts; try and come to a mutual agreement but don't feel miserable in the process and keep quiet about it.

If you have any questions about my second year, let me know!

I'll see you soon
