Good Evening!
Hi
there! Sarah here from trisarahtopsblog!
It’s my turn to post about mental health this week and my post is all about how
you can attempt to control your anxiety by testing my methods!
Anxiety
is something I struggle with, mostly at night but sometimes all the time if I’m
having a particularly bad spell. So here are the things I try and do to calm
myself down and control it to a certain extent.
Distraction
Something
I’ve always done since I was a child, is make up stories as I’m trying to fall
asleep in order to prevent the unwelcome thoughts creeping in. This can be a
fun way to block negative thoughts especially if you’re a creative person, like
me.
Getting
to the root of the problem
This
is easier said than done to be honest…most of the time there isn’t a reason for
anxiety or if there is, for me, it’s normally something so small that the only
way to fix it is to just ride it out.
ASMR
This
is something I really got into over the last year. ASMR stands for Autonomous
Sensory Meridian Response and is a tingling sensation that begins in your head
when listening to specific sounds. There are thousands of different kinds of
ASMR videos on YouTube but the ones I tend to listen to centre around helping
the listener to fall asleep. Not everyone reacts the same way to the same
sounds so I’d suggest listening to one of the many videos that go through all
the different sounds so you can find what works for you.
Reading
Reading
is my favourite thing to do especially when the winter months roll in and I
always find getting lost in a good book or my favourite book (*cough* Harry
Potter) is a great way to ease my anxiety.
Listening
to Music
Music
is another great distraction, but it has to be a certain type of music. Some
lyrics can be triggering and others very downbeat that it makes the situation
worse. I like to listen to quite heavy music or at the very least rock music as
there’s so much going on in the songs, it’s hard to think about anything else.
My favourite band to listen to are All Time Low as their lyrics are so
relatable.
Take
a Walk
Okay
so I know there was a big thing about this on Twitter a while back about how a
walk isn’t a cure etc, but personally, I find going for walks can help. Of
course, they’re not a cure or even a long term solution but walks can help to
clear your mind. Walks aren’t always possible, it’s not for me right now, but
when I could go for a walk I found it to be a great help. Taking walks in areas
that are somewhat affluent I find is very motivating, but this won’t work for
everyone.
These
are just the rituals I go through when I’m trying to ease my anxiety, but they
may not work for everyone. As everyone is different and have different triggers
for anxiety or other mental health issues, the way we deal with them will
always be different. It’s all about finding what works for you.
Make sure to follow her and say hello!
I'll see you soon
